Kwika Events - Event Services Marketplace

We designed and built Kwika Events, a digital marketplace that connects people planning events in Malawi with verified service providers across categories like catering, photography, venues, decor, entertainment, and more.

The Challenge

Event planning in Malawi has traditionally relied on word-of-mouth referrals and scattered social media posts, leaving both customers and providers without a structured, trustworthy platform to do business.

Our Solution

The platform was originally prototyped in Next.js and later re-engineered from the ground up in Laravel 12 with Inertia.js v2, React 18, TypeScript, and Tailwind CSS v4 for a more robust, maintainable production stack.

Discovery & Booking

• Rich discovery experience with over eight filter types
• Interactive Leaflet maps centred on Lilongwe
• Hierarchical service categories searchable by location, price range, availability, and speciality
• Full transaction lifecycle from enquiry through to confirmed booking
• Integrated ticketing and QR code generation for event access management

Provider Experience

• Structured onboarding wizard for profile, service listings, and availability
• Real-time messaging system keeping conversations inside the platform
• Push notifications ensuring providers never miss a booking request

Platform Architecture

• Progressive Web App accessible on low-end devices
• Dedicated dashboards for administrators, service providers, and customers
• Each dashboard tailored to the workflows that matter most to that user

Impact

Kwika fills a gap in the Malawian market, giving both sides of the event services transaction a structured, trustworthy platform to discover, book, and manage services — replacing the fragmented word-of-mouth and social media approach that has defined the industry.
